Tranquil
An immersive Christmas projection, built live in Unreal Engine 5.
Tranquil was an immersive projection for Cardinia Cultural Centre’s Chromatic Christmas activation in 2021. It moves through three Christmas worlds, built to delight children and give the grown-ups a warm, calm room to stand in.
Arctic Oasis is a landform inspired by the North Pole, with mystic creatures and auroras. Elves Rest is an outdoor workshop where Santa’s elves recover: wooden houses, an outdoor fire, toys half made. The World Tree is a street on Christmas morning, a huge tree in the middle, chimneys smoking in low sun.
Developed on site, in real time, for the canvas itself rather than rendered out as media.
It was a pipeline test for an immersive projection system for the space, built entirely in Unreal Engine 5, and the approach fed straight into the 2022 Secret of the Raft showing.
